I have an AP40 on a 6-foot show tank, and it died after two months of use. However, it was sitting in the sun (not recommended by mfr) and we've had some heat waves.

I had a 2" 400w Viper installed, which did a fine job but it was way oversized for the gallonage (4000) and it drew 7.8 amps. Also, the light given off at the clear ends of the bulb tube is incredibly bright, it needs its own housing so you aren't blinded at night. Be sure you need this big a unit and can pay for the electrical draw!
