Tetra 2-inch Vacuum Drain

Overall Rating:
Tetra 2 inch Vacuum Drain

Removes debris that settles to the lowest point of the pond. No excavation required- allowing for easy retrofitting of existing ponds. Connect to any suction line, pump or skimmer with pvc pipe or flexible hose. Even works great with swimming pool flex hose.

These are worthless, and they are no longer available...not surprised.

Does what it should if you have a lot of flow (2000GPH +) which may be too much for your bio filter. Not a good item for gravity flow. I attached mine to no kink pipe and can move it around a little if needed to vacuum difficult areas. I have had rocks get stuck in the elbow. Frogs seem to like to go through it too, so you have to check your leaf basket daily.

If building a pond, skip this and buy a 4" BD and gravity flow it to your first chamber.

Be sure to weight it down. They will float if not filled with gravel. But these work very well if you want to use a bottom drain without cutting the liner. But not as effective as a true bottom drain.

I end up using these on a lot of retro projects. There are a lot of aquascapes muck ponds in my area. The customer doesn't want to rip up the pond to install a true bottom drain, so I simply remove the rock (and the massive amount of sludge) and then retro fit in one of these bottom drains. They are not as good as a proper drain, but they are far better then the skimmer only design. If you are building your pond from scratch, then go with a regular bottom drain, but if its already built w/o a drain and you want to upgrade, this is a great way to go.

I use this drain and have had no problem. It is hard to hide, but i was not comfortable cutting into my pond liners. It was a good choice for my situation

Used this for a small 250G quarantine pond. Does not do too well. Have to use some weight on top of it to keep it from floating. Does not provide alot of water flow. Good for temporary uses.

OK for the smallest watergarden, but that's about it. I use this bottom drain in one of my quarantine tanks and it works fine, it just won't flow much water. For a fraction of the cost, a 2" shower drain would work just about as well.
