I have the solar powered unit. It only works when its in full sun, if its in the shade then no food is dispensed. At first it was frustrating because it would only work sometimes. I had to move it around the pond several times until I found a spot that was sunny at the times I wanted it to feed. But I finally got it figured out and haven't had any problems since. i think if they used a higher quality solar panel and/or battery then it wouldn't be a problem.

Been using this for years. It really works well and we never have to worry about feeding them. We still go by and trow in treats and goodies, but their basic food staple is always met. Its waterproof too and the bug and birds can't get into it.

have this unit for over two years.still work.
Also add the solar charge on it. That is how I can feed my koi
four time a day.
one drown back is it is noisy when it drop the food.

Quite simply the most reliable and eazy to use feeder we have encountered. We added the solar battery and have had no problems for well over two years.
