I have the Intelliflo, and use it for a pond fountain where variable flow rates are required. If only filtration is required, a single speed pump of the correct flow rate is the most efficient, but when varying rates are required, this pump is great. It saves electricity only when you throttle back the flow, since resistance varies with the square of the flow rate. But if you only need a low flow rate, a smaller pump would do the same at lower cost.
Construction is excellent, and there is a built-in timer for daily operation.
