Overall Rating:  | Round Matala is the perfect "drop in" media for vortex filters and barrel filters. Round Matala has the same qualities as the sheets of Matala in a coiled pre-cut cartridge.
Simply select the diameter roll and the density you need for your round tank and drop it in. Round Matala will naturally wedge in place without any need for support. Four sequential densities can be perfectly employed to achieve maximum solids/biofiltration.
Each roll is 6 inches thick with a tremendous potential to trap dirt, and yet is super easy to clean. The open structure of the media provides excellent flow-through without channeling. Since most round tanks are also rather tall you can stratify Matala in sequential layers to make best use of the chamber. |

I have always been a big fan of the matala material. The rounds are limited in their application, in that they can only be used in a cylinder chamber that fits the size of the round exactly. But when used correctly they are highly effective.

I don't own this so maybe I shouldn't write a review, but a member of my club built a filter using 55 gallon barrels and its the coolest thing I have ever seen. The rolls fit right in and they work amazing. I wish i had though of that when I was building my pond...would have saved me a lot of money.

I have the black Matala and it works great as my 1st mechanical filtration. It will only capture large solids but I use it in stages with the other Matala. I have never had a problem with clogging. I have been using it for a little over 2 years now.

Expensive but do the job. I like the sheets better since they are easier to clean then the huge roll. You have to keep the maintainance on this alot since it clogs quite often during the summer months. Frequent cleaning is required or else your filters will over flow if using a barrel type system

In the perfect pond matala mats have their place, I'm sure. But my experience with these and any other kinds of mats (specifically with my system) is that they clog too quickly and inhibit the waterflow or cause overflowing of my filters. So I had to stop using them.
